In a key phone conversation held on Monday evening, December 23rd, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan spoke with Bangladesh`s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of important issues that affect both countries. Sullivan took the opportunity to praise Dr. Yunus for his strong leadership during these times.
Since August 8, Dr. Yunus has been serving as the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government.
Sullivan applauded Professor Yunus for his efforts in helping to restore Bangladesh`s economy and for pushing forward major reforms in political, electoral, and other important sectors.
Additionally, Sullivan thanked Professor Yunus for the interim government`s recent announcement of a possible election date. He assured that the United States remains committed to supporting Bangladesh’s democratic process.
During the phone call, they also talked about the overall development situation in Bangladesh.
Professor Yunus expressed his deep gratitude for the support from the United States, which has helped Bangladesh overcome many long-standing issues.
Sullivan reaffirmed U.S. support for the interim government led by Professor Yunus and highlighted America`s commitment to helping build a prosperous, stable, and democratic Bangladesh.
Dr. Yunus also thanked the U.S. for its valuable assistance during this challenging period for Bangladesh.
He recalled his recent meetings with U.S. President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his visit to New York last September.
Looking ahead, Dr. Yunus mentioned that reports from six major reform commissions are expected by January. He added that after receiving those reports, efforts to build consensus for reforms and prepare the country for elections will begin.
This phone call marks another step in strengthening ties between Bangladesh and the United States, with both leaders showing a clear commitment to the progress of Bangladesh’s democratic future.
